This upcoming joint webinar hosted by MIrreM will explore the role of irregular migration data in shaping policymaking and public discourse within the EU member states and at EU level and include three presenters: 1. How Fit Is the Data on Irregular Migration? (by Maegan Hendow, Senior Researcher, ICMPD) 2. Obstacles to Using Irregular Migration Data in Policymaking and How to Overcome Them (by Jasmijn Slootjes, Associate Director, MPI-E) 3. Presence of Irregular Migration Flow Data in Public Debates and Policy Decision-Making? Insights from a Multiple Case Study Analysis (Norbert Cyrus, Senior Researcher, University of Osnabrück) Together, the presentations will highlight the dynamic interplay of data, policymaking and public debates, offering valuable perspectives for researchers, policymakers, practitioners. The presenters will discuss the quality and the accessibility of irregular migration data, which oftentimes relies on estimates and proxy indicators collected for other purposes. They will also identify obstacles to the effective use of data, and provide practical insights from case studies and best practice examples. Whether you are interested in the technical nuances of various data on irregular migration, or its broader implications for policymaking, this webinar is designed to inform and also engage participants via Q&A session at the end.
